Although you don't need to do much to prepare for a drug test, it's nice to know what to expect. Be sure to bring personal identification. If you have administrative forms or an email, be sure to bring them too.

If you can't provide a urine sample, you go into the shy bladder process. The time limit on this process is 3 hours. You may not leave, drink or eat privately brought food or leave the collector's view. Your collector will provide specific amounts of water. After your initial try, you'll get 16oz of water; after 1 hour, you'll 16 oz of water, and after 2 hours, you'll get 8oz of water. You are welcome to try again at any time during the shy bladder process. You'll want to make sure you can provide an adequate sample, or we'll have to start all over again.

Leaving in the middle of a test or during the shy bladder process is considered a refusal. Refusals are treated as positive tests.

Directly observed tests mean that someone of the same gender must watch urine leave your body and go into the collection cup. The collector may designate someone to observe if the collector is not of the same gender.

An instant drug test takes about 10-15 minutes, depending on the ease of paperwork and if you want it sent by fax or email.

It should only take 1-2 business days for negative tests to get results. Positive results may vary based on how promptly the donor contacts us, but it is typically one day after donor contact.

Do not worry! You will be contacted by the Medical Review Officer (MRO) if the drug test detects your prescription medication. Provide the MRO with the requested information, and they will release results as negative if everything is in order. They will not accept a family member's prescription.
